Julius Kweku Duah Coomson was born on 18th December, 1985 at Asukawkaw in the Volta Region. He studied Science at Bishop Herman College (2001 – 2004), where he became the Senior Prefect. In 2003, Julius committed his life to Christ. Although he had wished to study medicine, he was accepted into the Biological Sciences Programme at the University of Ghana, Legon, graduating in 2009 with a B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry.

While at the university, he was very active in the University Christian Fellowship, and was appointed President of the Akuafo Hall Christian Fellowship. Concerned about classmates involving God actively in their academic pursuits, Julius, together with a few friends, organized weekly bible studies and visitations to students in the Faculty of Science, and initiated the Faculty of Science Annual Thanksgiving Service.

In his third year at Legon, Julius enrolled in the RELITE Expository Preaching and Discipleship programme, and began to sense a burden from the Lord, to faithfully proclaim His word. At one prayer time with friends at the Mensah Sarbah Hall field on campus, an old-ish stranger approached him and declared that God says He can make him (Julius) a medical doctor if that was still his wish, but He needed him as a preacher of the gospel. How did this stranger get to know about Julius’ past desire to be a medic? How did he manage to single Julius out from among the hundreds gathered at the park? Julius decided not to rush into church ministry.

Patiently waiting on the Lord, doors began to open. Through RELITE, he had the opportunity to serve for one year as an intern at Lyonsdown Church, London under Rev. Charles Dobbie. Upon his return to Ghana, he served as full-time staff of RELITE Africa Ministries until 2014, when he gained admission to Wheaton College to pursue a Master’s programme in Christian Formation and Ministry, graduating in May 2016. He was awarded the Billy Graham Scholarship for Christian Leaders to meet the cost of study at Wheaton College.

The varied theological courses offered by Mr Julius Coomson during his period of study include:- Expository Preaching, New Testament Greek, Ministry to Children & Youth, Principle of Gospel-Centered Ministry, Bible in Ministry, Personal Spiritual Formation, Old & New Testament Theology, Organization and Leadership, College and Young Adults’ Ministry, and Research Methods, with a thesis on The Effect of Discipleship on Nominal Christianity Among Ghanaian Emerging Adults.

On returning to Ghana, he was appointed by Legon Interdenominational Church (LIC) in 2016 as the Campus Outreach Leader. In March 2017 he married Miss I. Mawuena Badasu. Mr. Coomson was appointed Pastor-in-Training in January 2018. His internship was with the Korle Bu Community Church and Calvary Baptist Church, Adabraka, for a three-month period.

Mr. Coomson’s favourite Bible verse sums up his life’s mission: “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God” Acts 20:24 (NLT).
